Sometimes, life throws you a curveball when you least expect it. In our industry, this tends to revolve around last-minute house removals. They’re the result of life events, arguments, dodgy landlords or just not booking on time! Whatever the reason, moving house on short notice can be really stressful. While we may not be with you in person, we are in spirit; here are some top tips to help ease the process and make your last-minute move a little less tedious.
Get What You Can, As Quick As You Can
In our business, boxes are a deal breaker. You simply cannot move without them. If you’ve hoarded packaging in your attic then fair play to you. If not, getting hold of them is easier than you might think…
As you’ll probably need to stock up on supplies anyway, head over to the local retail park. Go to each shop – the bigger the better – and ask the assistant whether they have any spare packaging out back. As anyone who’s worked in retail will know, there’s usually heaps of the stuff. A round trip at the retail park should see you with all the boxes and bubblewrap you need.
The same can be said for supermarkets. Their stackable food boxes – with open tops and air holes – are perfect for last minute removals as you’re able to bung things in and see what it is you packed. We don’t have the luxury of labelling here, so be grateful for what you’ve got! Just make sure you pack carefully. As you’re about to discover, it’s important to keep your cool, even at the eleventh hour…
Be Vigilant When Booking Removal Firms
Being in a rush does not mean you should be foolhardy. Removals is a skilled profession, and you don’t want to hire any old firm to move your precious possessions. In spite of the limited timeframe, you should do careful research on local removal companies and ensure you’re not persuaded by scams or dodgy traders.
Reach Out To Friends & Family
If you can’t get hold of a firm in time, then don’t hesitate to reach out to your friends, neighbours and loved ones for help. All it takes is a couple of cars, a spare afternoon and a few willing hands to make the process go much easier. Ask around on Facebook, text whoever is available and be sure to reward them if they help! This isn’t necessarily limited to loaders, lifters and drivers; some friends can help clean, others can help babysit or walk the dog.
There, we won’t keep you any longer. Good luck and God speed! We hope the move goes well.
