Move Around On Moving Day – 3 Exercises To Keep You Active!

Thursday, February 1st, 2018 in: Settling In

buying-house-tips

The idea of “keeping active” on such a stressful day might seem absurd. Moving in itself can be a draining experience – why add exercise on top of it?! It’s our belief that staying energetic on moving day helps to keep you positive and put the stresses at bay.

Whatever you’re doing, biology dictates that keeping your mind and body active can improve your overall mood. Moving day calls for special treatment so you can go to sleep that evening feeling happy-tired, not moody-tired.

Here are 3 simple, low-effort exercises for you to try out whenever you need to take a break.

Floor Exercises For Each Room

Whenever you clear a room (or fill one in the new house) take 5 minutes to perform these simple aerobic exercises. None of them require equipment, and with an empty house you won’t be lacking for space!

  • 20 star jumps
  • 20 high knees
  • 10 pressups
  • 10 sit ups
  • 10 tricep dips

Perform these exercises, rest for a few minutes, then perform them twice more. In just a few minutes you’ll have invigorated your body and built up enough exercise to get those healthy endorphins rushing in.

Bonus motivational tip: get in the mood and put on a moving house playlist for the workout. That’s the spirit!

Simple Yoga For Beginners

We’re not asking that you learn all the terms and the poses, simply that you find a quiet space in the house and do some simple stretches. Google “Yoga for beginners” and find a nice combination of moves that will stretch your back, core, legs and arms. The idea is to create a quiet, calming environment that will soothe your mind as much as your body.

Here’s a good infographic to start with, while plenty more can be found online. Good luck!

Go For A Walk To Relieve Stress

While the 2 exercises above can be done outside, they don’t invite fresh air like a good old walk. Just 20 minutes around the local area can be enough to reset your mind and forget the humdrum lifting of moving day. If you’re moving out, it’s a chance to say goodbye to the local area. If you’re moving in, it’s a great opportunity to get to know your new surroundings!

We recommend a combination of the above exercises throughout moving day. While they won’t cure your stresses completely, they can encourage you into a more positive headspace. And with an expert removal company doing all the heavy lifting, you won’t have to worry about your back!
